Vintage Birdcage Card

I wanted this card to be different, but I also wanted it to have a vintage feel to it.

I found this gorgeous bird cage die at a craft show recently, and knew it would get a good workout from me, so bought it.

My card started with a leftover piece of Le Petit Jardin design paper, which I distressed around the edges.  I cut out two pieces from the die – one in black, and one in silver glitter paper. I glued them together, slightly offsetting so you could still see the black, but only enough to give the top layer a bit of a shadow look.

I wanted to pull colours from the paper, so next I laid this beautiful black lace across the card, just below the cage. (I found it at the craft show too.) I then found some pretty ribbon in my stash that matched the colours of the flowers in the dsp almost perfectly. I laid a piece of that across the middle of the lace and topped it with a matching bow.

Last but not least, I added a matching flower to the bow, and three more flowers to the right of the birdcage.

And that was it. My card was done.

  1. Cheryl this is so gorgeous and I can see why you wanted that birdcage die. It is awesome and your whole card design is so in tune with the silver cage. Adding the black lace and the ribbon was a nice touch too.
