Hi everyone, it’s Cheryl with you today.
I set out to create a Christmas card using the Deck the Halls Festive Gnomes Self Adhesive Embellishments, and ended up make two cards using one background. It was completely unplanned.
I apologise because I totally forgot to take a note of the alcohol ink colours I used, but I’ve listed below the colours I believe I used. Of course you can use whatever colours take your fancy.
I began by making the alcohol ink background, then once dry, cut it out using the second largest die from the Scalloped Rectangles Tall Card Nesting Die Set.
Once I’d cut that, I then took the three small rectangles and spaced them evenly on the background, and cut them out.
Put those pieces aside, because we’re going to use those to create a second card.
Next cut out the matting for your card using Gold Mirror Foil Board and the largest rectangle from the same nesting die set, then add that to your tall card. This is going to be a landscape card to fit three of the gnome embellishments across it.
Now that your gold mirror board matting is secured, you will add foam tape to the back of the alcohol ink background. Secure that to the gold mirror board, and lastly add your gnome embellishments.
That is card number one finished.
It was about this point when I realised I could create a second card using the leftovers – this card is portrait orientation.
The first thing I did to this card, was to splash some alcohol inks (mixed with a little blending solution) onto the bare card. This is not something I would normally do, as regular cardstock is not the correct type of media to use for alcohol inks. As you can see from the image, it soaked into the card, but it gave the effect I wanted. I felt the card looked empty when I did a trial run, and doing this fixed it perfectly.
*It will soak through to the other side, so if you don’t want that, I suggest you cut a topper to add to your card.
Using the gold mirror board again, I die cut the Merry Christmas sentiment from the Happy Holidays Nesting Dies set, and added it to the bottom of the tall card on an angle.
I added foam tape to the back of each of the leftover alcohol ink backgrounds and spaced them out evenly in the remaining area of the card. Lastly I added the Winter Deer Self Adhesive Embellishments, and declared card number two done.
