Retiform Technique

First off, for those who have tried to access this blog recently, apologies. It *appears* the blog was hacked. It took several days for my hosting provider to get to the crux of the problem, but thankfully he did, and was able to restore the blog in its entirety!

Thanks to my friend Karen at Crafty Kazza’s Cardmaking blog for alerting me to the problem. (One minute the blog was there, the next it was gone!)

Now, onto today’s post.

I don’t know about you, but until a few days ago, I had no idea what ‘retiform technique’ even meant.

I had to search the internet for information on how to do it. YouTube had a few really good tutorials, as well as Pinterest.

However, the best video I found was from Stamp TV.

This one is for a partial retiform technique, but this one (also from Stamp TV) shows the full retiform technique. Either one will get you started.

Here’s what I came up with:

The greeting was stamped on vellum, then added to the card with tiny drops of Glossy Accents.

Here is the card without the greeting.

I have to say this is totally not my style. That said, I did have fun learning a new technique.

*Stamps used on this card – an assortment of Stampin’ Up! stamps.

I am entering this card into the Mod Squad “Retiform Technique” challenge, as well as the Just Us Girls “Vellum” challenge.

Thanks for looking, and as always, if you want to comment, and the comment box isn’t showing, click the title of this post and it will magically appear!

  1. Thanks so much, Ina. I do pop over fairly regularly, but usually miss the deadline for challenges!!

  2. This is absolutely STUNNING! I was hoping people would track down that STV video, I couldn’t add it to the Challenge as it is sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays. Love the colors you chose and the pretty images. I really like how you stamped that very pretty sentiment on Vellum and adhered it with Glossy Accents, I don’t think I have ever done that, cool! Thanks so much for playing along with us at The Mod Squad Challenge Donna, Challenge Host.

  3. Your card is wonderful and so glad you got to try it. I hope you had fun even if it is not your usual style. I like to try new things too. How else will we know if we want to do it more often or not.

  4. Thanks so much, Verna!

Absolutely agree with you. If we don’t try new things, we will never know what we can and cannot do. Or whether we like it!

  5. This card is just beautiful, love what you did with the retiform. Your colors are lovely and you have used such a good choice of stamps here. Wonderful texture and design, and your use of the vellum is gorgeous. Great take on the challenge, thanks so much for playing along with us this week over at Just Us Girls!!

  6. Thanks so much, Judy. This was a first for me, but I honestly don’t think this will be the last time I use this technique.

I can see how this could be a very popular design element.

  7. Donna, thanks so much for commenting – for some reason your comment ended up in the spam folder, and I’ve only just found it. Yikes!!

I found a few videos on that technique, but the STV one was the best I found.
