October “Giving Thanks” Blog Hop

WELCOME TO THE OCTOBER “GIVING THANKS” BLOG HOP!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for playing along in our October blog hop.

EXCITING NEWS!

The Blog Hop with Sean & Regina will now be featuring Gina K. Designs stamps only for our monthly blog hops starting this month! Most everyone we know are busy getting ready for the Halloween fun coming up on the 31st. We spooked it up for you in our last hop, so this month we want to celebrate November by “Giving Thanks” to all of our followers. To some “giving thanks” is the traditional Thanksgiving holiday, but to others to “give thanks” is to show appreciation to all those great family and friends in our lives. So, our hop this month is to show you how different we all give thanks.

The blog hop designers have been busy creating a card or cards that we hope will inspire you to create your fall themed “thanks” cards whether it be Thanksgiving, Give Thanks, Happy Harvest or a simple Thank You.

Now it’s time for card samples for our wonderful Blog Hoppers!

I’ve never made a card for Fall or Thanksgiving, so was a little apprehensive when Sean and Regina asked me to join this blog hop.  However, I’m always up for a challenge, so said yes!

This card began with the background stamped with a flower image from Gina K Designs “Dogwood and Butterfly” stamp set. This is a beautiful set, and is very versatile.  I’ve only had my set a few weeks, but I’ve already used it in a variety of ways.

The background stamp was created using Wild Honey Distress Ink.  I’ve literally just stamped it over and over in the background. (Click on the image for an enlarged version – this will allow you to see more detail.)

As you can probably see, I’ve used two die cuts for the focal image.  About three weeks ago I bought a new Spellbinders Nestabilities set.  This one is called Spellbinders Nestabilities Decorative Elements, Floral Ovals.  This is a very feminine looking die, and I’ve already used it more than a lot of the other dies I own.

After cutting this die out, I left the cardstock in the die, and sponged the exposed cs with Bundled Sage, Scattered Straw, and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks, creating what I thought was an interesting background for the focal image.

I also decided to add an additional die behind the Decorative Elements die to create more texture and depth to the card.  Here I’ve used the largest die from the Spellbinders Nestabilities Parisian Motifs die set. I then sponged it with Wild Honey Distress Ink. I used dimensionals to separate the two layers.

The focal image is from the same stamp set ( Gina K Designs “Dogwood and Butterfly”), and was stamped using Black Stazon.  In this instance, I stamped the image several times, moving it a fraction each time.  In most cases, I reinked the stamp, but also wanted some shadow stamping, so stamped without reinking in those cases.

The greeting I’ve used on this card is from Gina K Designs “Blooming with Blessings”. I simply cut it out using my guillotine, then ran some Wild Honey Distress Ink around the edges to make it stand out a bit better.  I also used dimensionals to lift it from the card and make it stand out.

Lastly, I added a little Star Dust Stickles to the flowers on the main image.

My second card again uses two die sets.  This time I’ve used the largest of the Spellbinders Nestabilities Decorative Elements, Floral Ovals set. Again, leaving the die in place, I sponged the exposed area, this time with Wild Honey.

The image I used this time is the Gina K Designs “Thankful for You” Duo Set.

I stamp the focal image onto card stock, then cut it out using Labels Six. This time I removed the cut element, and hand coloured the image.  I don’t have any Copics, so I use Distress Inks and a WaterBrush to colour my images.  In this instance I used Wild Honey Distress ink for the flower itself, and a mixture of Bundled Sage and Peeled Paint for the images.  Once that was totally dry, I sponged the edges of the Labels Six die cut using Scattered Straw, Antique Linen, and Walnut Stain.

Using wet glue, I added the flower image to the Decorative Elements die.  I then glued that onto a craft cardstock base.  The last touches were to add Star Dust stickles to the centre of the flower, and stamp the greeting using black Stazon. I have a label punch that can punch out multiple sizes, and this is what I used for the greeting. Finally, I sponged the edges of the greeting with Wild Honey Distress ink, and adhered it using dimensionals.

Thank you for stopping by today – I hope you have enjoyed my cards.
