Mixed Media Journal Pages

This is my first project for the Mix It Up Challenge Blog.

I had made a background in my journal, at least a year ago, and didn’t know how to continue. I’d used Tim Holtz printed tissue paper as the base, then added gesso, and lastly, Gelatos for the colours.

I did some stenciling using gold texture paste (you can see it scattered around).

Every time I went to do something on it, I was stuck. I just couldn’t find the right thing. Then, when I was looking for something for this month’s project, I came across a feather stamp and die set. They are from Hot Off the Press, but were freebies in a magazine over a year ago.

The second I saw them in my stash, I knew exactly where they were going.

This challenge has a twist of embossing (wet or dry), so I stamped out the feathers using coloured embossing powders, then die cut them.

I stuck them down, attempting to make them look like they are floating downwards. I then typed up my phrase – Don’t let life ruffle your feathers – on my computer, and printed them out.

I cut the words out and stuck them down, then drew borders around each word.

I hope you enjoyed my project, as much as I did making it.

We would love to have you join us on the Mix It Up Challenge Blog. Do stop by and say hello, and perhaps even submit a project!

*I am also adding this to the STAMPlorations May Mixed Media Challenge.

Thanks for looking, and as always, if you want to comment and the comment box isn’t showing, click the title of this post and it will magically appear!

  1. Beautiful journal pages. I love those colored feathers you used on it along with the other images.

  2. Thanks so much Verna. It was a long time coming, but I knew it would eventually work out.
