I’ve been interested in mixed media for a while now, and watched lots of YouTube videos but never really got the hang of it.
Before I went to hospital for my foot surgery, I took not one, but two mixed media classes. Both with different techniques.
As you may be aware, sitting around recovery from surgery can be quite boring. Now that I’m allowed to walk around a little bit (still not much though!) I decided to spend some time in my craft room today.
The current challenge at Just Us Girls (JUGS) is to use stencils. And since I’ve bought a ton of stencils, but never used them(!) I thought it was time.
Here’s what I came up with.
For this card I used Gesso, and then added Gelatos on top. The stencils are (Sunburst) Tim Holtz, and (Stars) Stampin’ Up!
The die is one I bought recently, but don’t know the brand name.
This card is totally out of my comfort zone, but I’m really happy with it!
Thanks for looking, and as always, if you want to comment, and the comment box isn’t showing, click the title of this post and it will magically appear!
Wow, this is spectacular! Love the stencil that you chose for this festive background- great job!! Thanks for playing along with us at Just Us Girls!

Its great Cheryl!! That sentiment is fabulous for this card!
Hope your recovery is going well Cheryl! You’ve done well for your first dabble into mixed media – I also have watched a bit on youtube, and love the thought of creating freely and I am impressed with your efforts here. It is lively, fun and packs a punch! I’m guessing that was the aim:)
Love this! Everyone makes it look so easy,, but it is not. This is fantastic!
Thanks Julie. I am really pleased with this card. I had no idea where I was going with it when I started, but love how it turned out.
Thanks Marcelle. I looked at other dies, and even chipboard words, but this suited perfectly, I felt.
Thanks so much, Donna.
I think if I hadn’t taken those face-to-face classes, I wouldn’t have attempted this.
And I even had fun doing it!
Thanks Ann! I was really surprised how well it came out. Especially given it was my first ‘independent’ effort.
What a fun birthday card! It certainly looks like a celebration to me. Love the background colors too!
Thanks Verna! I think it’s a really cheerful card. One that would lift someone’s spirits.
Wow Cheryl I love this card. Fabulous mixed media. You did a super card. What stamp is the sentiment? So glad you have been able to play again and back with us at JUGS.

Thanks Ina! Very glad to be able to join in again. The sentiment is a die. I bought it as an ‘unbranded’ die, and got it cheap, so can’t tell you what it is. (Because I don’t know!)
Thanks so much, Nancy! I am really love this mixed media stuff. I having a lot of having fun with it too!
