Masking – Mix It Up Challenge

Before I get into this post, let me wish you all a very Happy New Year! I hope your Christmas was wonderful, and you were able to make time to do the things you love.

I apologise for not posting more often recently, but I had a houseful of people – sixteen to be exact, and that included eleven children (five of them under eight!). I was exhausted when they’d all left. But it was a nice time regardless. 🙂

Okay, so this month’s Mix It Up Challenge is masking. You are also allowed Anything Goes, but I try to stick to the challenge.

I must admit with everything else going on around me (finishing off my latest book, and preparing to go on a cruise with hubby next week!) I totally forgot about this month’s challenge. But I always say, better late than never.

All the elements are from the same stamp set, and the original stamp I used includes just the large (orange) monster and the two smaller ones beside it.

I stamped it out in Jet Black Archival ink – because I was going to watercolour the images. Then I stamped it again, this time on some masking paper. I cut it out and placed over the original stamp.

I then added an additional monster on each side.

Lastly I stamped the greeting, then made a mask for that as well, adding the spaceship and planet over the top of the mask. I then pulled both the masks off and water coloured all the elements.

I added some colour at the bottom to ground the monsters, but admit I’m not so crazy about it. I also splattered a bit of paint over the card, trying not to get the main elements. I used the masks I had already cut to help with that.

The watercolour was dried using my heat gun, and then I mounted it onto some coloured cardstock.

And that was it.

Please consider joining us at the Mix It Up Challenge Blog this month. We would love to see you there.

Thanks for looking, and as always, if you want to comment and the comment box isn’t showing, click the title of this post and it will magically appear!
