Distressed Newsprint Card

What’s that you say?  Distressed newsprint?  Sounds ominous!

Yep, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw the name.  I was ready to give it a wide berth, but after watching the video, decided to give it a try.

This was all part of an anniversary challenge on StampTv.  First, watch the video:

See how easy it is?

I ended up making a card using this technique, and entered it in the StampTV challenge. I really enjoyed making the card, and gave it to my ten year old grandaughter on her birthday.  I love this card immensely.

For this card I used:

Kaisercraft Pearl Flourishes

Kaisercraft flowers (I distressed them, joined two together with wet glue, then spritzed them with water and scrunched!)

White lace that I distressed with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Vintage Photo

A variety of distress inks – Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Worn Lipstick, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Tumbled Glass, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Vintage Photo.

Cardstock is Burgandy.

The above card won the Distressed Newsprint challenge. (Very happy!)

My son’s birthday is the day after his daughter’s so I needed a card for him too. Since I’d enjoyed the process so much,  I decided to make a distressed newsprint card for him too:

I used the exact same process shown in the video but also distressed the stamped image.  After stamping, I screwed up the card as much as I could, then distressed it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Vintage Photo. The card with the anchor was literally ripped, then distressed.  For this card I used an old (as in over 40 years old) book that I had, which was yellow and falling apart, so it didn’t need a lot of distressing.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Vintage Photo, as well as Tim Holtz Peeled Paint distress Ink.

The images used in both cards are Gina K Design stamps – The birdcage image is from the True Love set, and the boat and anchor stamps are from the Enjoy the Sunshine set.  As always, you can use substitutes for all cards shown on this site.
