Last week was my granddaughter’s 16th birthday, which is a big deal in our family.
I find teenagers (girls and boys, but especially boys) difficult to make cards for. I’d seen loads of cards with these lovely dresses on friends cards, but they were using a die. I don’t have one.
So I went searching on the internet and found a free template I could download. Here’s the link if you want it.
I printed out the template, then cut it out, and laid it on my dsp (from Kaisercraft Wild Flowers) and cut it out. I laid the template over the top of the dsp and scored the skirt using my scoreboard.
Then I folded the skirt so it looked like it was pleated. Here’s a side on view. (I used a ton of wet glue on this to ensure it stayed glued.)
Then I did the same with the top, but there was not scoring involved.
I found some dsp for the background that complemented the dress dsp, and adhered it to my cardstock base. I joined the skirt and top together, added some ribbon and adhered it to the dsp.
I decided last minute to add the feather, so I was lucky the dress wasn’t completely adhered down. I found the pearl trails in my stash, and also the butterfly.
I added the individual pearls as I felt it needed something, then last minute decided to add the bow on the dress. I was also going to add a small flower to the dress, but didn’t have one small enough.
I cut out the “16” from some dies I’ve had in my stash for some years.
And that was it. Very fiddly, but worth it I think. And yes, she loved it.
