Inverted Die Card

A friend has a birthday coming up early next month. She’s very much into dies, so I decided to make a card with an inverted die.

I started by stamping STAMPlorations Daisy Row edge stamp on watercolour paper and embossing in gold.  I then took my watercolours and just played using red, orange, and yellow.

Once I was happy with the results and it was totally dry, I cut out “birthday” with my CUTplorations die. I cut it directly from the card, then cut it out on white twice. This is because I wanted the word to stand out.

I put double sided tap (on the back) across where the word was cut out, and laid down the first white piece, but used the inside parts of the word from the original coloured piece. I then ran the other white word and the coloured one through my xyron machine. If you don’t have one, you can just use any wet glue. (That’s what I usually do because I normally forget about the xyron sitting on my shelf!!)

Next I laid down the second white piece, making sure it was lined up perfectly with the first one, then the coloured piece, again ensuring it was lined up correctly.

Lastly I stamped the word “happy” from STAMPlorations Bloom Happy stamp set. I masked off the other words in the phrase. I obviously didn’t ink it up well enough because it was very feint. I went over the word with a Copic fine line marker.

What I really should have done was stamp first, then do the die cutting!  Will try to remember that for next time!

*You can also do this technique with black cardstock to make the word stand out a little more.

I added five strips of double sided foam tape to the back, because the card was a bit warped and I wanted to ensure it stayed flat. I added it to some yellow cardstock I had in my stash.

That’s it. Pretty simple, although a little time consuming.

I am entering this card into the STAMPlorations Never-Ending Anything Goes Challenge.

Thanks for looking, and as always, if you want to comment and the comment box isn’t showing, click the title of this post and it will magically appear!
