Vintage Card using Organza Flowers

I am very much behind posting this, due to having major surgery a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been resting and recuperating as much as possible, which gave me the opportunity to make a few cards. Rest assured this Mother’s Day card was made early and sent to my mother-in-law before Mother’s Day!

Replace with Happy Birthday or other Sentiment for Other Occasions

I started off using a card stock made of ‘natural’ color. It looked as though it was made from recycled paper, and not bleached in any way. Then I took some matte card stock (to go over the brown) and cut it slightly smaller than the card, giving it a border. I used a very pale yellow card for that.

I then sponged it with Scattered Straw Distress Ink, which I gave extra distressing around the edges, to give it an older look. At the bottom right hand corner you will see I curled that paper up a little as well.

Next I sponged white card stock, using Tattered Rose Distress Ink. (This is one of my favorite inks to use, as I find it very versatile.) I then stamped it with Scattered Straw Distress Ink, using a clear ‘script’ stamp purchased from Kaisercraft.

Next I made several small organza flowers, and one large organza flowers, using the technique from www.Card-Making-Magic.com – you can find the information here. (For the small flowers, I used a circle of approx one and a half inches, or 38mm.)

For the large flower, I added a pearl brad to the center, and for the small flowers, I added Stamens that I purchased from the cake decorating section of a large store. (You can get these very cheaply from Amazon.com – at about one quarter of what I paid!)

I used some craft leaves I had left over from another project to put behind the flowers to make them a bit more authentic.

When I’d done all that, I felt the card was a little bare, so added a butterfly to the bottom right hand corner. Before cutting it out, I used Tattered Rose Distress Ink, then sprayed Stampin’ Up Gold Spritzer over the top of it. Lastly I added a few small pearls.

To the center I added a sentiment. In this case it was “Happy Mother’s Day” but you could just as easily add any sentiment you wanted. I used Tattered Rose Distress Stickles Glitter Glue around the edge of the sentiment.
